Global: Long-Term Missions

Advance Leading: Long-Term Missions Pipeline

Preparing to be a missionary is an exciting process and journey. This “pipeline” serves to equip those who feel called to long-term missions.  Those who join this pipeline may feel called to support a missions partner or an international Celebration campus.

The pipeline process will include Biblical teaching, missionary training, and other practical ministry experiences to prepare individuals for the missions field.  Our hope is for this to be a highly-relational process in which each applicant is equipped  and personally mentored.  The following steps are the components involved in the Long Term Missions Pipeline.  Many will be accomplished simultaneously, and further steps may be involved according to each individual’s long-term missions goals.

Steps to long term missions or being a part of a church planting team at Celebration Church:

1.  Start and Pursue Leading

Due to the reality that many places in the developing world have countless disadvantages because of poor leadership, a missionary’s role is to search for, develop, and then coach leaders.  Those wanting to support a missions partner or a Celebration campus will inevitably serve in a leadership capacity.  It is, therefore, essential for each applicant to go through leadership training and become a missions leader before becoming a missionary.

 Seminar Information:

There will be several Missionary Preparedness Seminars held in 2010 to prepare those who feel called to long term missions.  Anyone is welcome to join these seminars and it is mandatory for those wanting to join a church planting team or to become a missionary through Celebration Church.  They will be taught by Celebration staff and volunteers, and there is a nominal fee to help cover training materials.  These seminars will only be taught once in 2010, so an absence will result in a make up the following year.

Seminar topics will include raising financial support, culture shock, adapting yourself and the Gospel to culture, and more.  The sessions will be held on Monday nights from 6pm-9pm on the following dates: June 28, July 19, and August 9, 2010.  The cost is $40 to help cover materials. Summer registration is closed.

2011 Dates will be posted soon.

3. Practical Ministry Training and Mentoring

Further training may be required depending on desired missionary involvement, especially if desiring to join a Celebration international campus.  This will be discussed in the initial interview.  In addition to practical ministry training, each applicant will be placed with an appropriate mentor to help in their preparation for becoming a missionary/church planter.

4. Team Building

Team building will commence after the applicants have had initial interviews and begin ministry training/mentoring.  Teams going to plant a church will commit to meeting together to pray, get to know each other, and discuss different topics (such as vision,       roles, conflict management, personalities).

5. Raise Full Support (topic to be covered in seminars)

6.  Final Interview and Approval

FAQ’s:

I feel called to be a missionary but I’m not sure when and where, can I still join the missionary/church planter pipeline in 2010?  Yes, you are welcome to attend all the classes/seminars as part of your preparation.  Completing the Part 1 application will simply let us know that you are a part of the pipeline and will specify your interest.  You are not required to complete Part 2 (which will be sent to you after review of Part 1) of the application until you are ready.

Why do we have to pay to go through these classes?  There are some nominal fees (an application fee and an audit fee) that Logos Educators Network requires.  We feel that it is beneficial to work with Logos for quality Bible education and know that the fees are minimal compared with other educational institutions.  We do recognize that people will be raising long term support and, therefore, we are diligently seeking to make sure any fees necessary are minimal.  The seminars will also require a $40 fee to help cover training materials and supplies.

Are all the classes necessary to go on short term trips?  No, the classes/seminars are only to help equip those who feel called to long-term missions.  There are no prerequisites to short term missions besides completing an online application (impact.celebration.org), paying the deposit, and participating in team meetings.

I feel called to move to Greece but cannot go on the next short term trip… can I still be a part of the long term team?  It is mandatory for anyone wanting to move to Greece (or any other location) to go on a short term trip first.  You will not be disqualified to join the team; however, you may not be able to move with the launch team until you take a short term trip to the desired location.

When can I start raising support to move overseas?  We are asking that all efforts to raise support start with the short term trip.  Following the short term trip, there will be an application/interview process for the long term missionaries and support raising can commence after approval to do so.  We encourage you to do a few things in the interim:  gather a network of givers by raising money for the short term trip, pay down any debt, set up a budget for living overseas and prepare to start the support-raising process.  The Missionary Preparedness Seminars will cover this topic to help equip future missionaries.
